UK retailer Game cancels pre-orders of highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2
High street retailer Game has cancelled pre-orders of the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console a week ahead of launch on 5 June.
In a statement published on social media on Thursday (29 May), Game said it was working hard to reinstate the pre-orders and asked affected customers to reach out to them.
“We sincerely apologise for the recent cancellation of some Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. We understand how disappointing this is, especially for those who have been eagerly awaiting their order.
“We’re currently working hard to reinstate as many affected pre-orders as possible. If your order was impacted, please know that we are doing everything we can and will be in touch with further updates and next steps.
“Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to resolve this. We truly appreciate your support.”
The retailer did not give a reason for the cancelled pre-orders. It was subsequently lambasted on social media by impacted customers.
A follow-up to Nintendo’s popular Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch is set to launch next week as the next mainline console entry from the historic Japanese gaming company. The standalone console will launch for £395.99 while console bundles (including the latest Mario Kart game) will launch from £429.99.
While the console has faced some controversy over pricing, the console has already received 2.2 million pre-orders in Japan alone.
While some consoles have already leaked to customers, reports indicated Nintendo is implementing a strict launch protocol, including a mandatory day-one update to activate the console.
